Karma Revero: How the luxury hybrid plug-in will look

Share

Karma Automotive has unveiled the first official image of its planned luxury plug-in hybrid car, the Revero.

The Costa Mesa automaker said Thursday that the public would be able to reserve one of the cars starting Sept. 8. Sales are expected to start later in the year.

Karma hasn’t yet announced official prices, but the four-door sedan that will run on gasoline and electricity — including energy from its solar-panel roof — is expected to cost $100,000 or more.

“Serving a mass market is not, and never will be, our purpose,” Jim Taylor, Karma’s chief revenue officer, said in a statement.

“The Revero is for a discerning group of individuals who desire beautiful, clean vehicles and a memorable ownership experience,” Taylor said.

The Revero was created from the former Fisker Karma vehicle after Fisker Automotive went into bankruptcy three years ago.

Karma Automotive now is backed by the Chinese auto-parts giant Wanxiang Group, which bought the Fisker assets in 2014. Its competitors include Palo Alto-based electric-car maker Tesla Motors Inc.

The Revero is being built at a factory in Moreno Valley in Riverside County.

On Monday, Karma said it would sell the car at eight U.S. and two Canadian independent auto dealerships, including one in Pasadena.
