Rain in Los Angeles area to continue into this evening, forecast says
A rainstorm that began Saturday morning is expected to continue into Sunday evening in the Los Angeles area, showering some parts of the region with as much as two inches of rain.
Sunday’s rain is forecast to turn into showers by mid-afternoon, said David Sweet, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Oxnard. The storm is likely to end Sunday night, with no rain forecast for Monday.
The more than 24 hours of rain is due to a storm system that slowed down and become almost stationary, Sweet said. “As a result, it drew up a lot of subtropical moisture and just sat there, and it just continued to rain and rain.”
“And the good thing is, because the storm was well-behaved, there were no flooding problems, no mudslides. … We ended up getting two inches of much-needed rain with no incidents,” Sweet said.
Areas across Ventura County, Santa Barbara and L.A. County have already received between three-quarters of an inch and two inches of rain this weekend. Meters at Los Angeles International Airport reported 1.03 inches of rain early Sunday; downtown Los Angeles reported 0.79 inches, and Pasadena had received 0.98 inches.
Temperatures in Los Angeles are expected to reach about 60 degrees Sunday, with lows in the upper 40s. Monday is forecast to be slightly warmer, with highs in the middle to upper 60s.
