A book about real estate heir Robert Durst, “A Deadly Secret: The Bizarre and Chilling Story of Robert Durst,” will be rereleased in paperback with new material on April 14 by Berkley Books. The updated version of the book, by Matt Birkbeck, is already available as an e-book.

Durst was the subject of an HBO documentary film series “The Jinx,” in which filmmaker Andrew Jarecki asked the real estate heir about alleged crimes he was connected to. They included the disappearance of Durst wife Kathie, who went missing in 1982 and has never been found; the death of Durst’s neighbor, whom he admitted to killing and dismembering but whose slaying he was acquitted of; and the 2000 murder of Susan Berman, a longtime friend in Los Angeles.

Since the program’s airing, Durst has been charged with weapons and drug offenses in New Orleans, and Los Angeles police have charged him with first-degree murder in the Berman case.

Originally published in 2002, “A Deadly Secret” focuses on the 1982 disappearance of Durst’s wife Kathie and the re-opening of the case by New York investigators 18 years later. Birkbeck , who covered the story for People Magazine, had access to Durst’s New York Police Department files.

Additional chapters were added in 2012; the 2015 updates include an author’s note that reflects the developments in Durst’s case with the airing of the documentary and his arrest.

Houston police who searched Durst’s home there say he kept copies of “A Deadly Secret” there.
