Dodgers beat Texas, 10-5, and fall to San Francisco, 11-9

AT THE PLATE: Rookie center fielder Joc Pederson blasted his team-leading sixth home run of the spring in the loss to the Giants. In the same game, utilityman Enrique Hernandez hit his fifth home run and catcher Yasmani Grandal doubled twice. Shortstop Jimmy Rollins and second baseman Howie Kendrick maintained their solid form in the other split squad’s victory over the Rangers, as each of them collected two hits. Rollins, who had a double, is batting .333 this spring. Kendrick is hitting .419. Minor league third baseman Buck Britton was called up to play against the Rangers and was a triple short of the cycle.

ON THE MOUND: Carlos Frias was charged with three runs, eight hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings against the Giants. Juan Nicasio and Sergio Santos, who followed him and are also competing for roster spots, had similar days. Nicasio was charged with three runs, three hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings. Santos gave up two runs, three hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning. In the game against the Rangers, Chris Hatcher lowered his spring earned-run average to 7.36 by tossing a scoreless inning.

EXTRA BASES: Hard-throwing right-hander Dustin McGowan pitched in an intrasquad game, marking the first time this spring he has pitched on consecutive days. McGowan, who served up a home run to Mike Trout of the Angels the previous day, was charged with a run in two-thirds of an inning. Not including the intrasquad game, McGowan has given up six runs and 12 hits in eight innings this spring. He will earn a $1-million bonus if he makes the Dodgers’ opening-day roster.
