Fort Everett stood near Lynnport as one of the Lehigh Valley region's eight 'interior Guards' in Benjamin Franklin's words. The forts were built below the Blue Mountains, closer to the settlements than other provincial forts to the north. Carl Snyderm shown here, and other volunteers, working with the Lynn-Heidelberg Historical Society, have spent several years rebuilding Everett at Ontelaunee Park in New Tripoli, about five miles east of the original site. Snyder says the work has cost about $75,000. Funding came from the state, the Harry C. Trexler Trust and a $20,000 bequest from Ella Snyder Springer. The new Fort Everett will be dedicated during the historial society's open house from 1-4 p.m. Dec. 10.
