See: Assateague and Chincoteague are famous for their wild horses. Do: At Assateague and Chincoteague, swim, hike, bike, drive on the beach, kayak and take a wildlife tour. Getting to Smith Island involves a ferry ride to Maryland's only inhabited off-shore island in the Chesapeake Bay. Eat: The Sea Shell Café in Chincoteague has tons of choices. On Smith Island, try the Bayside Inn or Ruke's. Stop by the Smith Island Baking Co. to buy a slice of Maryland's state dessert -- the fudgy, peanut buttery Smith Island Cake. Drink: The Assateague Island Oasis Restaurant and Bar has pit beef, plus happy hour every day from 3-7 p.m. Cheap: For $3, venture into the Smith Island Crabmeat Co-op to watch crab meat being picked and try a sample of it.
