News item: Baseball commissioner Bud Selig, who had signaled his intention to retire in 2012, reportedly will be offered a two-year contract extension by the 30 major league owners.
Schmuck's take: No shock here. The owners love Bud and there doesn't figure to be a lot of heavy lifting over the next few years. Bonus take: And, though a lot of people don't want to admit it, despite years of public and media vilification, he's done a pretty good job.
