Marathon men: Don't have to tell any real Orioles fans that the club's string of 15 straight extra-inning victories is the longest by any major league team since the Cleveland Indians won 17 straight back in 1949. You know that's a long, long time ago because even I wasn't alive then. The string really isn't the thing, of course. It's the ability of a young team to exhibit nerves of steel over and over again under intense and difficult circumstances. I usually hate it when coaches talk about "the character of this team," since it's an overused sports cliché, but it really fits the Orioles at the moment. If they can't beat you down, they're going to wait you out.
