• <b>Describe your latest book.</b> My latest book is "Shine," the conclusion to the "Shade" trilogy, set in an alternative-universe version of Baltimore much like ours, except that everyone 17 and younger can see ghosts. The main character, Aura, whose birth began this phenomenon, must overcome her fear of ghosts when her boyfriend dies and comes back to haunt her.

• <b>Why write? What makes writing a book worthwhile?</b> We all write for different reasons, but for me it's a healthy way to have multiple personalities. By immersing myself in my characters, I've lived a dozen lives. Only actors and writers can say that.

• <b>How, if at all, has growing up and/or living in the Baltimore area influenced your writing?</b> Baltimore has more personality per capita than any city in the world. It IS a character.

• <b>Is the written word in trouble? Are authors an endangered breed?</b> No.

• <b>What's your next project?</b> My next book, "Lust for Life" (Nov. 27, Pocket Books), is the conclusion to the WVMP Radio series, about a radio station with vampire DJs. It's set in a fictional version of Westminster, Md., where I currently live. After that, I'm trying my hand at non-paranormal fiction. Reality itself has plenty of drama these days.
