Detroit has Ty Cobb, an avowed racist who was almost universally disliked by his fellow ballplayers. Nevertheless, he was the greatest hitter in baseball history, with a lifetime .366 average, and a charter member of baseball's Hall of Fame. • Advantage: Detroit, grudgingly. Few would argue that Cobb was the better player. Still, how many parents exhort their children to be like Ty Cobb?
