Looking to secure the top seed in the
Smith, who ranks fifth in MLL history with 861 career faceoff wins, has not played in a game this season while recuperating from offseason shoulder surgery. He has been practicing with the team the past few weeks and last Friday performed very well against season-long starter Adam Rand.
"We have to get Alex into a game and find out whether or not he can be a factor in the playoffs," Bayhawks coach Dave Cottle said.
The winner of Saturday's game, which begins at 7 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, will earn the top seed in the playoffs. The reward for earning the No. 1 seed is playing in the first semifinal at noon as opposed to the second semifinal at 4 p.m.
The Bayhawks and Outlaws are tied atop the MLL standings with 10-3 records and are the only teams to have clinched berths in Championship Weekend, which will be held Aug. 25-26 at Harvard Stadium in Boston. Chesapeake defeated the Outlaws, 18-16, on June 2 at Sports Authority Field in Denver.
