Bealefeld eases out of office helping wounded warriors

Forget the parties and long goodbyes.

Frederick H. Bealefeld III is easing out of his post as police commissioner by helping others. On Tuesday, he took wounded war veterans to New York for dinner, a show and a look at the site of the Sept. 11 attacks.

As The Sun's police reporter, Justin Fenton, who went on the trip, one veteran gazed at the spot where the World Trade Centers stood and said, "It makes me feel like my injuries are worth something."
