The invitation suggested "nightclub chic." So that's exactly how Debra Nelson, 53, dressed when she came to the Baltimore Choral Arts Society's "A Ruby Cabaret." The Maryland General Hospital diabetes nurse educator was oh-so-Doris Day at the Grand Lodge in Hunt Valley in a red satin Max & Cleo sheath from Whimsy topped off with a blonde mink stole she's had for years. She made her look au courant with nude patent-leather pointy-toe Stuart Weitzman pumps from Nordstrom. She picked up her cigar box purse at another event's auction and her faux pearl bracelet at a Cookie Lee home show. She bought her pearl necklace in Hong Kong, and the ruby and diamond earrings were a gift. The Federal Hill resident says her outfit was also perfectly in keeping with her style of "preppy with an edge." "I was probably born in the wrong [era]. I love dressing for the '50s and '60s."
