Kristen Holt, 32, is a stay-at-home mom. So, when this Kensington resident had a night out to go to the "Pretty for Preakness" soiree at Cupcake, she went for an iconic look that she admires: "French Girl." She attended the shopping and wine tasting event put on by the House of Ruth Maryland Young Professionals Group in a personal style she describes as "classic with a twist." "I like to put on something like jeans and a basic shirt, and then add something that will make a statement." Holt started with blue and white diagonally pinstriped Banana Republic shirt paired with a silver gray J. Crew miniskirt. Then she added small statements with leopard-print Aerosoles ballet flats from Macy's and a leopard-print J. Crew envelope clutch. The big statement came in the form of an oxidized pewter necklace with flowers decorated with beads, pearls and crystals, which she found in a boutique on Mackinac Island, Mich. But part of this necklace was her own addition. "It broke, so I took a rose pin that had belonged to my grandmothers and incorporated it into the necklace to keep it together."
