Grandma Roses Cinnamon Tasties
Submitted by: Michelle Meeker, Ellicott City
Michele Meeker says this recipe has been in her family for several generations and was one of her grandmothers specialties. This cookie recipe is unique, as the main ingredient is sandwich bread. Once baked, these are melt-in-your-mouth cream cheese goodness enveloped in a cinnamon crust.
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
18 slices white sandwich bread, crusts trimmed off
1 1/2 sticks oleo (margarine)
Mixture of equal parts cinnamon and sugar
Mix cream cheese, sugar, egg yolk, and vanilla with fork until smooth. Spread on slices of bread and roll up like a jellyroll. Melt 1 1/2 sticks of oleo and prepare a bowl of the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Dip each roll in melted oleo and then into the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Lay on a cookie sheet and freeze. Remove from the freezer and bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Cool and cut into bite size pieces. The rolls should be completely frozen before baking.
