Cherry Oatmeal Dreams Submitted by: Rose Yingling, Baltimore Rose Yingling says she was given this cookie recipe 44 years ago by the daughter of her next-door neighbor who had made them in her cooking class at high school. That was the beginning of my many years baking Cherry Oatmeal Dreams, my favorite cookie recipe. The recipe has been handed down for years to her daughter, relatives and friends. Makes: About 6 dozen cookies 3 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 cups oats (uncooked) 1 cup butter or margarine 1 1/2 cups sugar 2 large eggs, beaten 1 tablespoons maraschino cherry liquid 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, chopped 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Measure flour, baking soda, salt and oats and set aside. With scissors, cut the cherries in quarters. Cream butter or margarine and sugar. Add beaten eggs, cherry liquid and vanilla. Beat well. Stir in the dry ingredients a little at a time. Add chopped cherries and nuts. Spray cookie sheets lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Shape dough into small balls and place on cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes.
