The Guilford Estate or A.S. Abell Estate purchased by Arunah S. Abell in 1872 for $475,000. Arunah S. Abell, founder of The Sun, is shown center with elbow resting upon the flower stand. He bought the estate founded by General William McDonald, who died in 1845. The Abell Family sold it in 1907 to Roland Park Company, which developed the enclave of Guilford in 1913.
