Herve Celestin, 16, is comforted by Gettie Audain, as he closes his eyes while experiencing phantom pain. Audain, a Commander with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, is a nurse and translator Celestin recently had bilateral amputation at a hospital in Petionville where he and his brother lived. Herve was inside the family home with his family when the earthquake struck. His feet were crushed, and six family members, including their parents, were killed. His brother, Jean-Mary was outside the home, and was not injured. Jean-Mary is sitting with him.
