High Point coach Jon Torpey

W is for welcome — High Point and Marquette begin their inaugural seasons of Division I lacrosse. High Point (N.C.) is coached by Calvert Hall graduate and former Goucher assistant Jon Torpey, and will compete as an independent. The Panthers lost their first game, 12-10 to Delaware, on Saturday. Marquette jumps into the fray for coach Joe Amplo. Division I lacrosse now is 63 teams deep, with Furman, Richmond, Boston University, and Monmouth waiting in the wings.
