News item 5 -- The Birds are back

A whole generation has grown up knowing the Orioles as a losing baseball team. This season, the Birds finally put that to rest. With a combination of great management (<a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT00008843" title="Buck Showalter" href="/topic/sports/baseball/buck-showalter-PESPT00008843.topic">Buck Showalter</a>), veterans (Adam Jones, <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT000010503" title="Matt Wieters" href="/topic/sports/baseball/matt-wieters-PESPT000010503.topic">Matt Wieters</a>) and rising stars (Manny Machado), the Orioles not only finished with a winning record, but won a couple playoff games too. And, at 20, <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLCUL000207" title="Oriole Park at Camden Yards" href="/topic/sports/baseball/oriole-park-at-camden-yards-PLCUL000207.topic">Oriole Park at Camden Yards</a> proved it's still one of the best places in the nation to watch a game. What a year to be a baseball fan in Baltimore.
