** Three Orioles -- Adam Jones, Matt Wieters and Jim Johnson -- have been selected to represent the American League in the All-Star Game. It is the first time since 2005 that the team has had more than the minimum one player on the roster.
** The Orioles will clash with the Mariners tonight in the first game of a seven-game road trip. The club has dropped nine of its last 12 contests, but still sit in second place in the AL East, six games behind the Yankees.
** Orioles left hander Brian Matusz has been sent down to Triple-A Norfolk after giving up four earned runs in as many innings Sunday, dropping his fifth consecutive start. On the season, he is 5-10 with a 5.42 ERA.
** The Orioles acquired Jim Thome this weekend in exchange for two prospects. The lefty has hit 609 home runs in his 22-year career.
** Michael Phelps finished first in the 100-meter butterfly at the United States Olympic qualifying trials Sunday, edging countryman Ryan Lochte.
** Sprinters Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh both crossed the finish line in 11.068 seconds at the U.S. Olympic track trials last weekend and will have a runoff Monday night to determine the last of three American spots for the race in London.
