Brute strength earned Keller his nickname with the New York Yankees, whom the outfielder helped win three World Series. A rookie on the 1939 team considered the best in baseball, he batted third, ahead of Joe DiMaggio. A Middletown native and Maryland alumnus, Keller played 13 years, batting .286. A five-time All-Star, he hit 30 or more homers three times, despite nagging injuries. (Keller is pictured with his father, Charlie II, who is catching).
