No use in sugar-coating this: the week starts slow but finishes strong. But as always, there's plenty of options spanning tons of genres — metal, rap, country, house and more — so let's get down to it:
On Monday, Cincinatti rockers Heartless Bastards headline at the Ottobar ($15). Hot Tuna will perform an acoustic set at Rams Head on Stage. That show is sold out.
On Tuesday, head to the gym or see a movie because there are no notable shows — with tickets still available — in the area. Cowboy Junkies play a sold-out show at Rams Head on Stage.
On Wednesday, the forefathers of '80s hair-metal, Y&T, perform at Baltimore Soundstage ($16). House-enthusiast 3LAU brings his "Campus Crashing Tour" to Recher Theatre. The website says there are only 15 tickets left ($20).
On Thursday, it's a star-studded country night at 1st Mariner Arena, with sets from headliner Brad Paisley, the Band Perry and "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery ($25-$59.75). If those lights are too bright, check out Dinosaur Feathers, Grandchildren and Gary B & the Notions are Metro Gallery ($8).
On Friday, Corrosion of Conformity — on the heels of a positive review from Pitchfork, of all places — performs at Sonar ($20/$23). The Honey Island Swamp Band and Petticoat Tea Room perform at the 8x10 in Federal Hill ($13). Boyz II Men (Rams Head Live) and fun. (Recher Theatre) have sold-out shows on Friday night as well.
On Satuday, Young Jeezy begins his "Hustlerz Ambition" tour at Fillmore Silver Spring ($30). I spoke to Jeezy last week about his new album's pushbacks, not making MTV's "Hottest MCs List" and more. Expect to see that soon. Philadelphia's mewithoutyou performs an intimate show at Metro Gallery ($15). Indie-darlings Cults perform a sold-out show at the Ottobar. R&B heartthrob Trey Songz and twerpy G.O.O.D. Music rapper Big Sean perform at DAR Constitutional Hall, too ($58-$75, yikes).
On Sunday, another long-standing metal act, Children of Bodom, performs at Rams Head Live ($20). Harlem Dipset member Jim Jones takes the Sonar stage ($15). Another "Idol" alum, Casey James, performs at Recher Theatre ($15).Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
