Player of the Year: Woody Wlodarczyk, C. Milton Wright
Wlodarczyk's hard-nosed attitude as the Mustangs' three-year starting catcher rubbed off on his teammates. The result was a repeat Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference title and a trip to the Class 4A state final for the second time since 2006.
Behind the plate, Wlodarczyk was fearless blocking pitches and runners. The senior catcher, who is headed to Harford Community College, threw out 14 of 21 attempted base stealers.
Mustangs pitchers trusted him and were all ears for any suggestions or orders from him. Wlodarczyk led his team in batting with a .513 average and also in doubles (13), triples (four) and RBIs (32) and runs (22).
Coach of the Year: Joe Stetka, C. Milton Wright
Stetka was a huge success as the Mustangs interim coach. The Bel Air graduate (1976) led the team to the first repeat championship in the Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference and to its second Class 4A state final since 2006.
Taking over for Tony Blackburn, who took a year off for family reasons, Stetka led the Mustangs, who had just three returning starters, to an overall 19-5 record and the No. 3 ranking in The Sun's final poll.
After winning the 4A North regional, C.M. Wright outlasted No. 4 South River, 8-6, in eight innings in the state semifinals. The Mustangs could not hold a one-run lead in the seventh and ended up losing, 7-6, to Sherwood in eight innings.
