The 200-year-old Wilmer Stone White Oak in Anne Arundel County's Arnold Park was dedicated as the Maryland State Tree in 2008 (the white oak, as a species, has been the state tree since 1941). Tragically, it only earned that distinction after the previous State Tree, the Eastern Shore's fabled Wye Oak, fell during a 2002 thunderstorm. It was 96 feet tall and about 500 years old.
