The most popular member of the Obama campaign is coming to Maryland Friday for a pair of fundraisers.

Michelle Obama is scheduled to attend an afternoon reception at Morgan State University in Baltimore and an evening reception at a home in Baltimore County.

As Erin McPike wrote this week on RealClearPolitics, the Obama campaign has been leaning on the first lady in the final weeks of the campaign to testify to the president’s character and vision.

Michelle Obama typically travels three days a week, and makes a couple of appearances per travel day. She visited Virginia last week and Florida and North Carolina this week.

“She is a huge and effective asset for the campaign,” Democratic strategist Michael Feldman told McPike. “She is the single most popular surrogate for the president and the ultimate validator on his strongest attributes as a husband and a father.”

Proceeds from the fundraisers Friday are to benefit the Obama Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee of Obama for America, the Democratic National Committee and several state Democratic parties.

Tickets to the evening  event, hosted by Rheda Becker and Robert E. Meyerhoff at the Residence and Art Galleries of Robert E. Meyerhoff in Phoenix, begin at $5,000. It will feature a musical performance by Yo-Yo Ma, Leon Fleisher, Pamela Frank, Hilary Hahn and Jaime Laredo.

Tickets to the afternoon reception at the Carl J. Murphy Fine Arts Center at Morgan State start at $250.
