Thomas Roberts, a news anchor for
who grew up in Towson, is marrying Patrick D. Abner, his partner of 12 years, at a ceremony today in
Roberts, who is 39, is a graduate of Calvert Hall College High School and McDaniel College in Westminster.
The ceremony was scheduled for the Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel, according to his publicist, Pete Sanders.
, former mayor of San Francisco and current Lieutenant Governor of California, officiated.
Roberts was previously was seen on
and Entertainment Tonight and Insider.
His parents are Rob and Michelle Roberts who lives in Towson. His partner, Patrick Abner, works for the pharmaceutical firm
Roberts has been in broadcast journalism for many years and has worked in Lincoln, Neb. and in San Diego. He was a Fox affiliate news anchor and investigative reporter in Fort Myers, Fla. and a co-anchor of an afternoon newscast for a
affiliate in Portsmouth, Va.
He received an Emmy Award nomination in 2002 while a CNN co-anchor. A year later he co-anchored the CNN
coverage of the Columbia space shuttle disaster.
He joined MSNBC in 2010.
Roberts was himself the subject of media attention in 2005, when he came forward to testify against Baltimoreans Jerome "Jeff" F. Toohey, a former Roman Catholic priest who Roberts said abused him while a Calvert Hall student. Roberts was interviewed in 2007 in “Sins of the Father,” on CNN’s
