Next up: The proof and the pudding

New Orioles baseball operations chief Dan Duquette is fond of saying that "the proof is in the pudding," which raises an important question as the Orioles head into their second series of the regular season.

What if the pudding is wearing pinstripes?

The Orioles have benefitted from three terrific pitching performances this weekend against the Minnesota Twins, but they'll be taking a serious step up on class when the Yankees arrive at Oriole Park.

It'll be up to Brian Matusz to keep the string of strong starts going on Monday night when he faces Ivan Nova. And it would certainly help if the Orioles hitters can continue to put early pressure on opposing pitchers.

This will be a classic reality check. The Orioles really look like they might be more competitive this year, but we all know that they won six of their first seven games and spent two weeks in first place at the start of last season.

The Yankees, meanwhile, are coming off a disappointing opening series against the Tampa Bay Rays, so they might be a bit testy.
