Maj. Gen. James A. Adkins, adjutant general of the Maryland National Guard

"I would have to say that while I had the opportunity to break a huddle with Ray (Lewis) and the team during training camp, my greatest memory has been visiting troops in Iraq and Afghanistan where team support and spirit was very evident even in harsh conditions. The Ravens have always been great supporters of the Maryland Guard and to see the troops follow the Ravens even while in combat is very special. Ray Lewis is called the "General" for his leadership on and off the field. I became the Adjutant General in 2008 and had the opportunity to meet players at training camp. I remember a young player coming up to me when I was in uniform and asking if he could get his picture taken with me. I remembered his number and later looked him up on the roster, it was Ray Rice."
