Of Love and Regret, the Canton bar and restaurant from Stillwater Ales' Brian Strumke, will open its upstairs bar on Friday. It's called the Jaded Lounge, and it will feature 11 drinks on tap (four Stillwater beers and seven specialty liqueurs/cocktails -- more on that in a bit).
Following through on Strumke's vision from the beginning, the Jaded Lounge will also double as a boutique bottle shop, selling an assortment of beer, wine and spirits. Customers will be able to enjoy them in-house or for takeaway.
"[T]he idea for the second floor is to create another atmosphere to OLAR where this will be more of a social lounge environment and also the grounds to take our vision of the imbibing experience to the next level with obscure & unique offerings," Strumke wrote in an email this morning.
Unique to the Jaded Lounge will be some of the drinks on tap. It will feature the first sanctioned draft line in the world of Chartreuse, the famous French green liqueur, according to Strumke. The first-ever keg of Aecht Schlenkerla Distilled (distilled German Rauchbier) will be tapped, too. Rounding out the unique selection will be drafts of Fernet Branca, the Calvados-and-apple based Domaine Dupont Pommeau and in-house OLAR cocktails such as the Jaded Manhattan.
In other Stillwater news, the first "Stillwater Sensory Series" collaboration is on sale now. Inspired by the 12-minute song "In the End is the Beginning" by Baltimore indie-rock band Lower Dens, the beer is the result of Strumke and the quartet discussing how music can influence beer. The label will feature a QR code (scannable with most smartphones) that will lead customers to an exclusive performance of the song. For more details, check out this post I wrote back in September when the collaboration was first announced.
Strumke says the beer -- titled "Stillwater Sensory Series Vol. 1 Lower Dens" -- arrived at the Maryland distributor this week, and "should be popping up at the usual Stillwater outlets." It's currently on sale at Of Love and Regret, the Wine Source (3601 Elm Ave. in Hampden), Wells Discount Liquors (6310 York Road in Cedarcroft), Dawson's Liquor (589 Baltimore and Annapolis Trail in Severna Park) and more.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
