Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold has a slight tear in his right hamstring

Orioles

outfielder

Nolan Reimold

has a slight tear in his right hamstring that’s causing nerve pain in his upper leg, a club source said Wednesday.

Reimold, who hasn’t played since May 11, had MRIs on both his lower back and hamstring. The injury could keep him out for several more weeks.

Given his ongoing discomfort, manager

Buck Showalter

said it would be a “challenge” for Reimold to return from the disabled list when he’s eligible Tuesday.

Showalter said he hopes Reimold will take batting practice while the team is away for a weekend series in Toronto. But he added that Reimold won’t swing until his leg is fully healthy.

The injury continues a frustrating pattern for the 29-year-old outfielder, who has struggled to establish himself as a major league regular because of repeated injuries. He has scuffled even when healthy this year, batting .188 in 31 games.

Jones at DH again

Adam Jones

was in the lineup at designated hitter for a second straight game Wednesday as he continued to recover from groin soreness.

“He’s not happy with me again,” Showalter said. “I know he wants to play center field.”

Showalter said he wanted to be careful before the Orioles head to Toronto for four games on artificial turf.

Jones joked that he would bother Showalter on the bench Wednesday night, but he said he appreciated his manager’s caution.

“I’m good, that’s why I’m wondering why I’m out,” Jones said. “But he wants to give me more rest, give me another day. He is taking the measures that Showalter takes.”

Jones — who played in every game last year and hasn’t missed one this season — described the problem as routine soreness.

“It’s my legs,” he said. “I’ve been running a lot. It’s both legs. My legs hurt. My body hurts. Way it is.”
