In the fourth round of baseball's amateur draft, the Orioles selected 21-year-old first baseman Christian Walker, who was part of back-to-back national championship teams at the University of South Carolina.
Originally from Limerick, Pa., Walker has batted .319 with a .447 on-base percentage and .548 slugging percentage this season in 58 games with the Gamecocks. The 6-foot, 220-pound junior is considered a good collegiate hitter, though he doesn't show a lot of power for a first baseman. He's had 11 homers and 53 RBIs so far.
In the fifth round, the Orioles selected Colin Poche, a high school left-hander out of Flower Mound, Texas. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder is committed to the University of Arkansas. He was an all-region, second-teamer in Texas.
In their first five rounds, the Orioles have selected two college right-handers, a high school shortstop, a collegiate first baseman, and now a high-school lefty.
