Looking for backstage access to this year's
? You've come to the right place.
All weekend, I'll be blogging about what is being said backstage, as Hollywood takes the time to pat itself on the back for whatever good work it did in 2011.
The fun begins on Saturday, when I'll be attending the 27th annual
, given to movies produced outside the major studios and with limited budgets. Among this year's big contenders is
which is also favored in the Oscar race -- meaning this could be the first time ever that the same film has won the Best Picture Spirit and Oscar.
Other Spirit nominees include
), all of whom are up for Oscars. The awards, handed out during a ceremony inside a huge tent pitched near the Santa Monica beach, begin at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The blogging will begin shortly thereafter, as the winners are brought backstage to talk to the press (that includes me).
The Spirits ceremony airs at 10 p.m. Saturday on IFC. In case you want to see the madness for yourself...

Unfortunately, we won't know the winners until April 1, but at least you'll know the cream of this year's crop of awful movies. Here's betting the finalists will include such truly awful cinematic bilge as
and "Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star." Did anybody actually watch "Bucky Larson?"
On Sunday, it's Oscar time. This marks the 16th year I'll be covering the Oscars, and the second time I'll be blogging from backstage. Last year, it was fun to hear Supporting Actress Oscar winner
explain why she dropped thef-bomb in her acceptance speech. Who knows if there will be anything similarly outrageous this year? We can only hope...
