Anne Hathaway will win her Best Supporting Actress Oscar, and fans of "Les Mis" will continue to lavish praise on this musical ode to the excesses that led to the French Revolution and proclaim it the most emotional thing ever written (which it isn't, not even close). But director Tom Hooper's misguided decision to shoot all the musical numbers in unrelenting close-up hasn't worked to the film's advantage. Besides, no musical has won for Best Picture since "Chicago" in 2003, and that's not going to change this year.
