Parsons, Heyl, Leith clinch spots on Olympic team

Maryland paddler Scott Parsons secured a spot on the U.S. Olympic team by winning the men's kayak for the second day in a row yesterday, the last day of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in South Bend, Ind.

Maryland paddler Bret Heyl also made the team on the last day of the trials.

Final selections were made using a formula that translated a paddler's two best results in the three-day event into a percentage of the winner's times on those days.

In women's kayak, Maryland paddler Sarah Leith clinched a spot on the Olympic team.
