Mike Lowry, drummer, Big in Japan

For Baltimore rockers Big in Japan, having a live show known for improvised music is both exhilarating and nerve-racking.

"The best part is not knowing what's coming next and actually having it turn out to be something transcendent," said drummer Mike Lowry. "The worst is not knowing what's coming next and everybody just crashes and burns and knows it." But lately, there's been a reliable aspect to the band's shows. Celebration singer Katrina Ford has been the band's vocalist for several gigs. "It's great," Lowry said of playing with Ford. "She's an amazing talent and an amazing person." Lowry, 36, was born and raised in Charles Village and now calls Bolton Hill home.
