Smith is another coach who did an excellent job cleansing the stains of the guy who came before him. Between Michael Vick and Bobby Petrino, there were a lot of bad vibes in Atlanta that Smith had to dispose of before he could build a respectable franchise. As Mark Bradley of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution put it recently, Smith is the best coach in Falcons history by a huge margin. He's the only coach to ever lead the franchise to consecutive winning seasons. But to move up on this list, he needs to win a playoff game. No more excuses. It's been a difficult season for Smith, who had a scare in mid-December when he checked into a hospital with chest pains. But the pressure of the postseason is unforgiving. For all the talk that Matt Ryan is on the verge of becoming an elite quarterback, he still has zero playoff victories.
