Sports Legends to induct Ripken, Murray into Hall of Legends

Cal Ripken Jr. and Eddie Murray will be inducted into the Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards' Hall of Legends during the Babe Ruth Birthplace Foundation's annual gala in September, according to a news release.

"Cal & Eddie: A Legendary Evening" will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Hilton Baltimore, the foundation said. The event is one day before Ripken is scheduled to have a statue unveiled as part of the Orioles Legends Celebration Series at Camden Yards. Murray will have a statue dedication ceremony at the ballpark in August.

The two former Orioles and National Baseball Hall of Fame inductees will join Babe Ruth, Johnny Unitas, Art Modell, Jim McKay, Brooks Robinson, Gary Williams, and the seven Pro Football Hall of Fame members of the Baltimore Colts’ in the Hall of Legends, an area at Sports Legends Museum at Camden Yards "reserved for the elite of Maryland’s sports culture."

"Each year, our gala celebrates a legendary figure or achievement in Maryland sports history," said Mike Gibbons, executive director of the Babe Ruth Birthplace Foundation, in the news release. "Not only were Cal and Eddie exceptional ball players, but they helped set the foundation for many great baseball traditions in Baltimore."
