SARASOTA, Fla. -- Orioles right-handed reliever Luis Ayala said this morning that he still hasn't made a decision on whether he will pitch for Mexico in next month's World Baseball Classic.
Ayala, who is listed on Mexico's provisional roster, expected to make a decision Thursday evening, but said he's awaiting a call before he finalizes a decision.
Orioles center fielder Adam Jones (United States), right-hander Pedro Strop (Dominican Republic), Jonathan Schoop (Netherlands), catcher Chris Robinson (Canada) and catcher Allan de San Miguel (Australia) are slated to play in the WBC, while pitchers Jim Johnson (United States) and Miguel Gonzalez (Mexico) have declined invitations.
As the third day of pitchers and catchers workouts commenced Friday on a chilly Florida morning, Ayala is one of three pitchers who have yet to throw bullpen sessions. Johnson and Darren O'Day are the others.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter has said he plans to pace some of his pitchers slower with spring training being longer this year.
Today's lineup of bullpen sessions is the exact same as the first day of workouts. Jake Arrieta, Tommy Hunter, Brian Matusz, Zach Britton, Todd Redmond, Adam Russell, Dylan Bundy, Zach Clark, Steve Johnson, T.J. McFarland and Mike Wright.Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
