The full moon arrives at 11:35 p.m. Saturday, within an hour of the moon's perigee. That means the moon will be at its closest to the Earth for this year. It's relatively rare that the full moon coincides with perigee, happening once every 13 months or so.
Aside from a nice photo opportunity when the moon dwarfs buildings on the horizon, the supermoon means higher than normal tides, so be wary of that if you live on the bay.
