Baltimore gets ready for Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau release

Thursday is release day for 2012 Georges Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the big release, always scheduled for the third Thursday of November.

Metropolitan Coffeehouse and Wine Bar in Federal Hill is having its 6th annual "From the Barrel" Beaujolais Nouveau release party on Thursday, featuring all-you-can-drink Beaujolais Nouveau and "tons of classic French cuisine," including boeuf Bourguignon, coq au vin, duck confit casserole, ratatouille and "killer French cheeses."

The cost is $50.  RSVP either to the Metropolitan Facebook page, by email to bruce@metrobalto.com, or by phone. You may also sign up in person at the bar.

Tersiguel's in Ellicott City is throwing its annual GDBN release dinner, featuring a five-course chef's menu with wine pairings. The menu includes traditional onion soup made with Beajoulais wine, Beaujoulais-cured salmon roulade with tarragon sauce and grilled Angus sirloin with bone marrow-stuffed portobello mushrooms. The all-inclusive cost is $100.

I'll add in more local release events as I hear about them.

Meanwhile, here's part of the press release from Georges Duboeuf announcing this year's release (which I gave up trying to summarize):

"To  honor this 30th anniversary, Georges Duboeuf has invited world-renowned techno-illusionist Marco Tempest to become a part of the story and celebration of Beaujolais Nouveau. For the first time, Georges Duboeuf will introduce a label that incorporates an Augmented Reality experience through a smartphone app available for free that allows consumers to have a magical experience with Marco Tempest and Beaujolais Nouveau."

Here's a video introducing the app.

And here's more about  Tempest and the release-eve festivities.

"Tempest is a virtual magician known for his imaginative combination of computer-generated imagery, quick-cut video and enthusiastic stage presence. Through online videos and via the augmented reality label, Tempest invites wine lovers into his world to play with Nouveau Magic. On the eve of Beaujolais Nouveau day, Tempest will perform for guests with a masterful blend of digital media, dazzling illusion and new magic at the Beaujolais Nouveau Midnight Magic Show in New York City where the 2012 vintage will be unveiled and the first bottles will be tasted at midnight."
