The bottom line

Where do we begin? The Orioles were fortunate to drag one victory out of the first two series of what is starting to look like a pivotal (and not in a good way) road trip, and they managed just one legit run in that game. The rotation is in crisis, the offense is flatter than Kansas and the week featured a pair of three-error games. And still, as late as the final out Sunday, they were in first place in the American League East. This is just the way you want to head into a three-game series against the resurgent Red Sox at Fenway Park. Orioles fans can curse the fates for the injury that put Nick Markakis on the disabled list and the inside pitch that left Adam Jones with a sore wrist the other day, but things are tough all over. Last week was a washout. Grade: D-
