Overpowering on themound as well at the plate,the junior pitcher was a significantpart of a record-breakingseason for the Indians,who went undefeated inthe regular season beforewinning their first countychampionship and thenclaiming the Class 3A Northcrown.
Eades, a second-team selectionlast year, finished theseason 21-1 -- losing for theonly time against Atholtonin the state semifinals--andallowed just 10 earned runswith 236 strikeouts in 133 innings.She was equally importantin the lineup, whereshe batted third and hit .484with 33 RBIs and six homers.Franklin coach Ed Lahay saidhis standout made majorstrides in her three years onvarsity with improved focusand drive.
COACH OF THE YEAR: Bridget Collins, McDonogh
The Eagles (13-4) closed outthe season on an eight-gamewinning streak that wascapped by a 5-3 win over NotreDame Prep to claim theprogram's first InterscholasticAthletic Association ofMaryland B Conferencechampionship. A tough extra-inning loss againstChapelgate Christian -- theEagles' fourth consecutivesetback--during the regularseason proved to be a turningpoint, as the team didn'tlose again.
With a pitch-by-pitch, inning-by-inning approach, theEagles rolled into the playoffsand then avenged their loss toChapelgate with an 8-2 semifinalwin before coming backfrom a 2-0 deficit to beat NotreDame Prep for the crown. Collins,a 1990 McDonogh graduatein her seventh season, carrieda roster of 16 players,with each making a positivecontribution.
