Amazon launches children’s e-book tool for self-published authors

On Wednesday Amazon announced the launch of KDP Kids, where self-published authors can create illustrated children’s e-books for its Kindle tablets and reading platform.
“Authors want to focus on telling great stories and we want to help them do that. No one should have to be a computer programmer to create a beautiful, illustrated Kindle book for kids,” said Russ Grandinetti, Kindle senior vice president, said in a release.
To publish using KDP Kids, authors download Amazon’s Kindle Kids’ Book Creator software which works on PC or Mac. With the program, authors can import image files to create illustrated Kindle e-books, and add useful shopping tools like categories and age and grade ranges.
Amazon offers a testimonial from an early user, children’s book author and illustrator Michele Lynn Seigfried, “As a self-published author, doing all the work myself and being no technical expert, I found this so easy to use. It will definitely save me time and money when I publish my future books,” she said in the company’s release.
Other companies such as Blurb have already been encouraging self-published authors to create children’s books using their platforms. Blurb’s platform can create both e-books and print books.
