Police in Miami-Dade County, Fla., say they’ve caught the man who they suspect hid under a table at a college library and sniffed a woman’s feet, the Miami Herald reports.

The arrest of Eddy Juan, 53, is the latest development in a bizarre case that started Aug. 29, when police at Florida International University received a complaint about a man crawling beneath a library table and smelling the feet of a woman who was reading there. According to FIU Student Media, the woman was not aware of the man under the table.

Police released photographs of the suspect, and tips came in on where to find the man. He tried to flee police on a motor scooter, which he crashed. He was subsequently arrested.

In a statement, the university police said, “Although some may consider this to be humorous or insignificant, the FIUPD takes these reports seriously and continues to investigate the matter.”

Juan is charged with a host of crimes: aggravated assault, violation of sexual offender registration, fleeing and eluding, reckless driving and resisting an officer without violence. The first three charges are third-degree felonies, which in Florida are punishable by up to five years in prison.

An entry on the Florida sex offender registry for a man named Eddy Juan lists his current address, as of Tuesday, as the Miami-Dade County Jail. The entry indicates that Juan’s qualifying offenses, from 1997, are related to lewd and lascivious conduct on or in the presence of a child under 16.
