Ravens bar of the week: Abbey Burger Bistro

Lifestyle and LeisureCookingFederal Hill

When it opened a few years ago, the Abbey Burger Bistro was the first restaurant in Federal Hill to offer upscale burgers with odd meats. (Wild boar, anyone?) But it quickly became a neighborhood favorite of Ravens fans and the post-college set.

The restaurant and bar is down a short alley off East Cross Street. On your first visit, you might walk right past it without realizing it.

There are two floors — if the downstairs bar is slammed, you might have better luck upstairs. And because it's within walking distance of M&T Bank Stadium, you're in the heart of Ravens territory. Don't expect to see many (if any) enemy jerseys.

Drinks: Beer is Abbey Burger Bistro's specialty. There are a number of microbrews on tap and by the bottle. During Ravens games, they also offer more casual brews, such as buckets of Bud Light and Miller Lite (five beers for $15). Some games, they'll also serve $2 Natty Bohs.

Food: As you might have guessed from the name, burgers are what to order. You can build your own, with specialty meats and toppings. One favorite is the Peanut Butter Burger, topped with beef, bacon and peanut butter. Pro tip: Keep a cold one nearby to help wash it down.

Atmosphere: Classic Baltimore pub: bricks and wood. It can get loud, especially during games, but there's nothing wrong with that.

Parking: During home games, you're usually out of luck, but for away games, you stand a good chance of getting metered street parking.
