Discussion and book signing Former Olympian John Carlos and sportswriter/author Dave Zirin will appear for a discussion and book signing at 6 p.m. in AACC's Robert E. Kauffman Theater, 101 College Parkway in Arnold. The duo will discuss "The John Carlos Story: The Sports Moment That Changed The World," and the impact of Carlos' symbolic Black Power salute, shared by fellow African-American sprinter Tommie Smith, on the podium at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the AACC Student Life office's event fund. Golf tournament Hospice of the Chesapeake invites area golfers to its annual fundraiser at Queenstown Harbor Golf Course in Queenstown. Tournament contests include an opportunity to win a Mercedes-Benz with a hole-in-one, as well as a $2,000 cash prize raffle.
Registration is $250 per person and $900 for foursomes, which includes greens fees, cart, a continental breakfast, lunch, awards banquet, contests and prizes. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Proceeds will support programs and services offered by Hospice of the Chesapeake in Anne Arundel and Prince George's counties. Tournament Broadneck High School will host the U.S. Scholastic Band Association's "Bands by the Bay Tournament" beginning at 6 p.m. at the school, 1265 Green Holly Drive in Annapolis. 'Taste of Kent Narrows' The sixth annual "Taste of Kent Narrows" will be held at the Chesapeake Bay Exploration Center, 425 Piney Narrows Road in Chester. Festival The West River Heritage Day Oyster Festival, featuring music, food, children's activities and more, will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Captain Salem Avery Museum, 1418 E. West Shady Side Road. Featured musical performers include Tim and Savannah Finch, the Eastman String Band, Janie Meneely & Paul Di Blasi, Calico Jack, the Sour Notes and the Coastal Flats.
