Perhaps "something borrowed" should be amended to "something rented." More brides are opting to fill out their wedding day accessories by renting jewelry for the big day. "Renting jewelry is becoming a hot trend in the bridal world," said Ashley Amtmann, co-owner of Lemon & Lime Event Design. "Why spend the money on jewelry, which can be so expensive, when you can put that cash towards another element of your wedding or your honeymoon?" Most renting takes place online, said Amtmann, and popular businesses that offer rental jewelry include Rent the Runway and Adorn. The process: Pick your baubles, select a rental period and it arrives at your door as soon as a few days before an event. "I have seen this quite a bit lately," said Diana Venditto, senior planner and designer at Baltimore-based Eventi Planning. "[Brides] are doing it because they want gorgeous jewelry and unfortunately they do not have heirlooms that fit the criteria." How much can you save? For example, at Adorn, floating diamond drop "Middleton Earrings" have a listed retail price of $10,875. Rental price? $160. At Rent the Runway, an Oscar de la Renta "Amethyst Statement Necklace" that retails for $995 rents for $125.
