Baltimore is known for its quirky events (see: anything that the American Visionary Art Museum puts on), but we hadn't seen something quite like this in the city: A competition where teams make homemade machines and try to fly off a 30-foot platform. The platform was above the Inner Harbor -- and most sank immediately. Just fell right down in there. It's one of those times you don't mind the crowds. Watching those brave good sports dive into the water in 2006 was more than just randomly funny and exciting -- it made us grateful to live in a town where something like this could happen.
