This year marks Charles Ostrander’s fifth Black Friday with Best Buy. The 31-year-old Essex resident currently works at the store’s branch in White Marsh as a Mobile Manager. On Friday, he will be working a 14-hour day consisting of two 7-hour shifts with a couple hours of break in between. But according to Ostrander, the excitement of the day is so intense that the time goes by quickly. “I have always called it the ‘Super Bowl of Retail’ because it’s ‘go time,’” he explains. “This is where retail’s best establishments go all-out for their customers and is kind of the kickoff for the holiday shopping season.” But what about the madness and horror stories we always hear about Black Friday shopping? Ostrander tells b that Best Buy has solid plans in place every year to keep things organized and running efficiently. The weirdest thing that has ever happened at his branch? On one unseasonably warm Black Friday, Ostrander arrived at 3 a.m. to find customers playing a game of football in the parking lot. Read on to see what Ostrander has to say about hardcore rock music, face-plants and the downside to the invention of GPS.

Worst pet peeve? I tend to be very overprotective of my cars so I park in the back of the lot, or away from others. I can’t stand when I come out from a store and someone has parked right next to me even though there are 50 other spots between the door and where I parked.

What's on your iPod? I've got about five gigs of music on there, mostly hardcore rock and metal.

What song are you hating/loving right now? Loving: Chevelle - “Face to the Floor” (awesome mechanics and haunting lyrics by a truly talented group). Hating: Bruno Mars - “Grenade” (man I'm sick of hearing this song ... somehow it always seems to be playing in the background at work).

Last concert/gig you went to? Godsmack, Five Finger Death Punch and Drowning Pool.

Your worst habit? Being overly critical of everything and everyone.

Trend that has exceeded its natural lifespan? Pandora beads/bracelets.

Last movie you liked/disliked? Liked: “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” Disliked: “Source Code.”

Last video that made you snort with laughter? Anything with a good face-plant.

TV shows you can't get enough of? “Grey's Anatomy,” “Burn Notice,” “Undercover Boss” and “Men of a Certain Age.”

Favorite book you recently read? My monthly Motor Trend Magazine.

Last great meal you had? P.F. Chang’s in White Marsh just the other night with my fiancé.

Food you hate? Mushrooms.

Favorite place to get a drink? Dellis Bar & Grill in Rosedale.

Favorite and most loathed fashion statements? Favorite: A good pair of jeans (i.e., Timberland or Wrangler). Most Loathed: Socks with flip-flops or slip-on sandals.

Favorite quote/saying? “There is always a solution to the problem.”

Best/worst electronic device ever created? Best: Smartphones (changed millions of lives for the better and still going). Worst: GPS units (making lazy drivers worse).

Favorite thing about Baltimore? Ravens football.
